Goodness me! That dyna is real chewed up! Its food for the bin I'm afraid, I wouldn't waste any money in getting that repaired. It is exactly how mine was when I purchased my bike. The question is.... how on earth did it get like this? I think that it may have got pretty hot sometime.

I had just bought one from him and found it to be excellent. You will want to test the field windings though, if they have had it as well then you'll need a new one, but... You'll need a special tool to compress it into the dynamo body, while your at it check the bearings too.

This is not uncommon on Lucas generators. The commutator is only pressed together and old age sees the segments getting loose and centrifugal force does the damage. The cheapest option is replacement but a commutator from a scrap armature can be fitted and the armature rewound. I have done this on several armatures as some types are hard to find in good condition.

Hello Jaran, I'd really think the easiest way is a new armature, together with a set of bearings & brushes. Of course will cost more than trying to put together something from old parts, but your dynamo will be up & running in no time after you get the parts from the post office, then it'll last for a long time with no new trouble or expenses.
