A couple of years ago I bought good thick fibre washers of the correct o.d. from Burtons.

What about copper washers?

Same deal, had to make some.  And I've used Richards method before too, but used the Dremel for the fibre washers, but as I said 'slow and fiddly'.... Just remembered I have some bits left over from a diesel injector pump overhaul kit, might go sus that out for usable bits
Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

It's just a leak. Fixing the leak makes more sense than redesigning the drive with an O-ring chain and cooling and lubrication.
