Hello All. Just to let you know that my restoration is progressing well, by which I mean that the bits are all coming off relatively easily. Remembering that I only have some evenings and weekends to work on the bike, so far, I’ve removed the tank and seat (obviously), exhaust, carb, front wheel and mudguard, headlight and cowl, switchgear, cables and wiring harness (what was left of it!).
The mudguard is cracked and the stays are bent but hopefully I’ll get it welded and straightened this week at a local ‘engineering smithy’ who does some good metal work for the company I work for. Everything is getting the ‘keep or replace’ assessment and so far, it’s looking good.
I’m particularly pleased that most of the bodywork is salvageable even though I’m going to need a good bead/powder blaster – any recommendation in the North West? Even the airbox is OK, and it’s in a bit better condition than the rather rusty example that’s just gone for £234 on ebay. That’s money I can spend elsewhere on the bike!
Obviously, its early days in the great scheme of things, but so far so good… and here’s a picture to prove it!
