Hi folks,

My 42-5076 right (brake side) fork  slider is shot. I have looked at at 1968 97-2504 omn ebay, it looks identical... can they actually be interchanged?

Thanks

Peter

Hi Peter,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/97-2504-NOS-Right-Side-Fork-Leg-Slider-BSA-650-1968-A65-Lightning-Spitfire-W100-/311415464942?hash=item4881cee3ee:g:-HUAAOSwHnFVvkV5

Being for the later A65 it will/may be the type that takes a rod damper,
In the photos on eBay, the bottom of the fork cannot be seen,
There would be a hole there for the damper retaining bolt
I would ask the seller before committing to buy if the hole is there or not & other dimensions
It would be possible to make a tapered pin as used on the A10 and retain it with a bolt from underneath
if all else was the same, which I think it is???

I have some spare sliders, not sure exactly what year. Shipping from USA may be prohibitive, but I can see what's in my shop if you need it.

All heavy weight A B & M forks are interchangable as they have the same tapper on the top and are the same diameter.
The plungers are spaceed further apart.
So you can fit any leg into any steering stem.
I can the A 65 on C10 legs for a while after finding a big dog with the front wheel.

The caveat on this is the damping method is differnt so if you are thinking of fitting A 65 gear then you need to swap both legs, not just one or the front will dive at an angle which is not condusive to good handleing.

I fitted the later sliders and the damper assemblies to my SR project, it means you need the top bolts with an internal thread to take the damper rod.
A good rider periodically checks all nuts and bolts with a spanner to see that they are tight - Instruction Manual for BSA B series, p46, para 2.
