Agreed. But if all else fails you can do the nut up by clamping the wheel spindle in one slider, holding the brake on with the lever and turning the wheel. Not that I did that, no of course not...
Use the 1969/70 brake plate nut rather than the A10 item with thenTLS.
The 1969/70 has a smaller hex (1 1/8 AF) than the A10 nut and allows the use of an 1 1/8 AF ring spanner or a deep socket. The A10 item is larger across flats and (11/16 whitworth size)not enought clearance for a ring in the recess on the brake plate.
I pride myself on getting projects done quickly, but this one keeps slipping to the back of the garage. So, progress again. All the tinware taken to the painting man! He's promised it for later this month. I'm not sticking with standard colours and am going for black frame (already done), red tinware, black headlamp and shrouds. I've just pressure tested the Indian tank and masked it ready for painting, and order the transfers from the BSAOC. The engine and gearbox and wheels are in and instruments and mag and dyno ready to be fitted. Maybe get the whole thing finished early spring......then onto the next one!
Had a lead crystal battery given to me recently for testing. As the AGM I had in was near the end of its life I decided to plug in the LC. First results are positive. It holds its charge very well but haven’t tested it yet with full headlights on. One of the advantages (so I’ve been told) of a lead crystal battery is that it can handle deep discharges, which has always been an issue with the AGM’s I had before. Once discharged below 11v, the AGM’s never recovered very well. Best one I had lasted a good 4 years. Let’s see how the LC behaves https://enix-power-solutions.es/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/AMC9003_UK.pdf
Does anyone remember the S/S car exhausts back in the 70's? My Brothers a metalurgist and in those days was working for midland roll makers in Crewe .He drove a Leyland car (heap ) which devoured exhausts he spotted a garage offering guaranteed for life.He checked it out and that was the guarantee was for life know ing full well they wouldn't last he bought a system and returned and returned until he sold the car 5 vrs later, they hadn't rotted joints just gave up the ghost
I too was driven mad by spindle lengths. Given that BSA and Triumph were one company how could they make so many variations of fork slider, spindle and brake plate?
Bergs - I would gladly do it, but it's my birthday (for the next 12 months at least)
Cheers Bill - at least I get spoiled once a year I think I'm a bit of a whippersnapper regarding my age, but I'm not far off a reasonably significant round figure (bit like me really).
More and Happy (big?) Birthday Worty. No cakes with candles on the emoji list here as far as I can see . . . would send you one! Just can't beat a chunk of lamb. My #1 fave - that girl spoils you! I'll think of you as I gag on the skin of a herring and a stale crust later . . . .
