Hi A10,
Even with the supplied Allen screws which makes fitting easier as you do not need  to wind in the worm gear at the same time you need to be careful that the worm and drive gear have a little clearance between them.
 The screws still allow a certain amount of movement

Also check that the inner cover is flat so the pump won't leak around the gasket. I trial-bolted mine in place without the gasket and checked for any gaps under the pump.

Peter, I found Cheeserbeezers second method works better. Don't forget to replace the cork spacer/washer beneath the sprocket.

no need to distort anything cheeser that sprocket will take enough tension with a 3 legged puller to enable it to be whacked like a car ball joint taper and it will drop off unless it's been glued up. also what if he hasn't got a spare timing gear to play with. i have always got them off with a short sharp shock-------pink floyd  *beer*

The SRM pump should be supplied as a complete kit which includes the crankshaft worm drive, screws and gasket. I would advise removing the old pump and worm together, similarly fitting the new pump and worm together, jiggling the worm bit by bit as the pump goes on. The pump is supplied with cap head screws which I don't like but, as these are only going to be tightened up once, maybe that's OK. It may be that the screws supplied are a better fit in the pump body and are less inclined to allow the pump to travel away from the worm drive. The gasket supplied is a quality, one-piece item, so you don't need to fit a fibre washer under the spindle end of the pump. Basically, it's an easy swap and an improvement. Don't forget that the crankshaft nut and worm are left hand thread.

Agreed, take it off with the gear still on and get it on the bench.  The short answer is , yes you can put quite a bit of force on, its not the end of the world if you have to straighten the pulley *smile*.
I'd say that distorting the pulley should be avoided at all costs. I'd be interested to know what acceptable engineering procedure could be employed to straighten it sufficiently for the chain to run without horrible tight-spots. The best thing to do is fit a belt drive of course. That pulley can be removed with a couple of timing cover screws, and the dynamo pulley removed with a magneto puller. Happy days!

I have just bought an SRM oil pump. What is entailed in fitting it? Is it a simple job or are there any pitfalls or complications? If anyone has done this job did you use the SRM supplied fixings or retain the original BSA studs? I'm sorry if this question is daft, but I' not at all a competent mechanic.

I am calling out all the alternator model a10 owners. I have put up a few posts but so far no one has got back to me. Prove me wrong that I am not the only
alt model owner out there, what a thought, I would like to know how others got round some of the problems I have come up against.
