Post by: Adtrac on 15.02. 2025 12:36
What cylinder should ignition timing be set from  , left or right and what ignition pick up does that equate to ?

It’s risky not checking timing on both cylinders.  I set it on the drive side, because it’s near me when I’m playing with the points, then I check the timing side.

Always recheck after tightening the drive pinion nut.

When a cylinder is near TDC after the compression stroke, the brass segment in the HT slip ring will be touching one of the pickup brushes. That is the pickup for that cylinder.

The heel of the points is nearest to the pickup which should be connected to the firing cylinder.

If you get wrong just swap the HT leads over. Iv'e done that a few times.

I set them left pick-up to left cylinder.
Left pick-up being the rear one.
