My first ride today after getting the bike and rebuilding/refurbing.
I was very surprised at how much power was there, i was expecting a weak fart type affair after riding my XJR and 2013 Tiger, but no, it went better than expected and it handled and braked well too. I haven't even touched the ignition timing after the inital set up and it seems quite good. I don't think it's 100% as there is a bit of blueing to the downpipes. I ran it three times, first time just down the driveway then for about 500 yards and then for about half a mile. At least it hasn't seized up yet *eek*
Thanks must go to everyone on the forum who offered advice one way or another and also to Andrew at Priory Magnetos (Cheeserbeezer) who supplied me with a lot of the parts and gave invaluable advice.
I still need to get some new silencers and fit the new clutch chainwheel, chain and crankshaft sprocket, but it'll give me something to do sooner or later. So there we go, hey hey.

The headers on my A10 blued up soon after my rebuild 10 years ago. I think the rings were a bit tight. I remember the engine getting very hot. No further overheating so I guess the rings were just bedding in.

Well done. Very good looking cycle there. Nice work and it will be a pleasure to ride. Weather is improving here and if they can fix my eyes I will be out and about.

Congratulations CATZ, after over 10 years I can still remember my first ride on my GF post restore. Felt great for several days afterwards 😆 an “inner glow” a mate described that feeling as.

Ffffrank, i see you're in Canada eh? Whereabouts are you based? Me and my Mrs are going over to Calgary and then into Saskatchewan in August.
My wife and I are in Kamloops, British Columbia, about 7 hours drive west of Calgary, I am afraid, and my wife is from Saskatoon but we don’t get out there much as that is another 5 hours or so. If you make it out this direction by chance then give us a call company is always welcome.

First real ride in the spring sunshine today. 31 miles through south Cheshire, one lovely bit of road we took from Woore just over the Shropshire boundary to Audlem in Cheshire, and everything seems good except my Mrs doesn't want to go on it again and she says the seat's too small and there are too many vibrations coming up through the pegs.

Hi Cats,
If your Mrs is used to the Triumph Tiger I suppose the BSA might disappoint?
I can see in the pic of the A10 that the seat foam is collapsing somewhat?
I'm assuming the bike has the later broad seat? But it looks collapsing in the middle tipping the back end upwards.. there should be either rubber blocks or two bolts that screw into the frame with rubber domes on top to support the middle of the seat..
Seat foam and covers are available from RK Leighton.
A worn chain/ sprockets or too tight adjustment will cause vibration through the footrest..
The A10 chain tightens up a lot when the suspension is compressed , so easy to adjust too tight???
Anyway my Better Half thinks the SR seat is very comfy *smile*

Catz, when my missus wants to ride out, I always say I'll have to 'pump up tyres and reset tha' suspension'. That usually results in bad language and a sulky storm-off. *eek* *eek* *eek* This then means a peaceful ride out whilst she cools down - but no tea on the table when I get back. ;) *conf*

Thanks for the advice regarding the seat, i'll look into it. There are two bolts screwd into the frame rails but not with rubber domes.
The c&s are brand new but could possibly be too tight though i adjusted the chain as per the book.

Opposite for me really. Riding is my way of getting away from it all, having an adventure, with the freedom to do what I want and go where I want for a few hours. If Sue were with me, and it started raining, it'd be ride over and misery. She has been on the back, and enjoyed it, but wouldn't on the rides I generally go on (not to mention the distance). Nah, we all ride for different reasons in different ways, the commonality is the bikes and the love of riding. *wink2*

I miss having Deb on the back. It's been quite a few years now. We went on our honeymoon 18 years ago on the A7 plunger, about 600 miles. I thought getting the HD a few years ago might entice her back. Not yet but I'm working on it.

A previous boyfriend of my Mrs scared her sh*tless when taking her for a ride on the back of his scooter, and as a result she's never expressed the slightest interest in coming out with me.

I picked up my wife the first year out primary school teacher from her school and convinced her into climbing onto the back of my tuned RD350B.
The 50 yard wheelie as we took off was not intentional (RD350's are like that; especially with more weight over the back axle).
It was 5 years before the terror subsided and I could get her onto the back of another bike; an A10.
Now she regularly hops onto my Super Rocket.
When I get the Gold Wing going.......

Now that would be frightening, made me laugh just thinking about it *help* *lol* I always have a laugh with my Mrs whenever i need a new back tyre, the extra weight you know, she's not a big woman, i hardly notice she's there, sometimes i have to have a quick feel, fnar fnar, just in case i've lost her.

I too had an RD350B, but not tuned. They were lively though, and I had much fun on mine and rode it everywhere. It was the first 'big' bike I had post passing my test at 17. It did have high bars, but I used mine for distance rather than road racing, but I'll never forget that satisfying 'crackle'. *smile* *smile*

Way back when I first met my Janet, in 1968, my Morris Minor was OOU, (Out Of Order), I had already owned a couple of motorbikes but I didn't have one at that time. Janet lent me her Vespa 125. I was not looking forward to riding it but pretty soon I fell in love with the device: It started on the first kick, it was comfortable and it kept rain off my legs. The small wheels were the only negative; I had it go from under me when I rode diagonally over a shallow kerb.

fortunately my girlfriend loves bikes and if there is a choice its the bike every time, mainly the Guzzi V7III or the A7ss not so keen on the fielmaster but she hopes to do her CBT this year.

my girl loves betsy beezer to the point of making me go back to bends and throwing betsy over in the corner and accelerating out, BUT urma the 750 yonda scares her silly in a straight line or on bends and now she refuses to go on the back *yeah*, probably my fault for using urmas accelerating power *whistle*

Sue was never one for bikes. In fact, when I started riding again back in 2010, I half expected her to put up fierce resistance, but she didn't?? She's only been on once, and has said she liked it and would be happy to try it again, but I do fear it'd only be to the nearest cafe, or something. I think she likes the experience every now and then, but she's more 'princess' than 'biker chick' (no offence to anyone).
Still, I do prefer solo riding, so maybe it's a good thing eh. *wink2* *beer* *beer* *wink2* *grins* *dunno*

My Janet was an excellent pillion when we were young; she's a little'n and I could not tell she was on the bike; she just relaxed and let me do the leaning. Janet is refusing to go on the back of the new bike. As Worty said, getting away on my own is great. 👍
