When I was returning to the dealer after my test ride on the new BSA yesterday I turned into the service road where the dealership is located. The road was potholed and wet. Also I was on an unfamiliar bike so I was not going fast. A van pulled out into the road in front of me. I started to remonstrate with the driver; he just pointed at my bike. I'd forgotten to cancel my indicator when turning off the main road. I apologised to him. 😬
I have not used indicators on a motorcycle for many years. The BSA winkers do not self cancel and they are silent. The lamps are small and not easily visible in daylight. I will need to be very careful in future. You cannot forget to cancel hand signals; maybe I'll continue to use them on the new bike.

They don’t have to be silent, if you want a bleeper.

On my Mille I replaced the indicators with LED ones but as there is only one shared repeater in the dash, the bleed through of current meant all four indicators flashed so I had to remove the dash repeater light. Consequently I'm forever leaving then on. PIA!

Something I will investigate.

I know when I've left my indicators on....my arm gets tired.

Went through a period not so long ago where i was leaving my left arm out after turning! My mind was obviously elsewhere and i really shouldn't have been riding, not a good sign. Am better now?
*bash* ::hh:: *sleepy*

I could use hand signals on a modern bike I suppose.
Using hand signals forces a slower sequence of events; you need time to think about the manouvre; when will you change gear and when will your hand leave the bars allowing time to put them back on the bars before the turn. Flicking on the winker button immediately before the turn is a recipe for pain.

GB, I put Paul Goffs LED indicators on my bike. They are bright and easily visible according to a following mate.
First few rides I kept leaving them on, but now I am getting it right most corners. I don't think drivers see hand signals - they don't know what they mean.

Your new BSA will be 12v so it should not be too difficult to wire in a warning buzzer they are quite inexpensive on ebay. On my A65 I fitted indicators with a warning buzzer also a warning light in the top of the headlight which flashes in time with the indicators the warning buzzer is quite loud and goes up and down in time with the indicators you cannot fail to hear it so I never fail to cancel them. Maybe you could have a word with the dealer and they could have one fitted for you.
