The time has come to get to work on restoring this bike this year.
Here is what I have to start with, although there is lots of other bits kicking around to make a good start of it.
I shall post updates, and questions from time to time throughout the year.
I have set a finish date for Easter 2020 for this bike

Does anyone Know why the Superflash Frame has the gooseneck in the vertical frame tube? I reckoned it could be to make room for bigger carbys, maybe the space for the bigger oiltank, but I wonder if it actually moves the saddle position slightly to give a more transatlantic riding position. Seemed a lot of effort to produce two different frame types for essentially the same basic model.

Yep, carb it is. BSA used a 1/16th Amal 10TT9 carb for the Superflash which would not fit a standard frame so they had to put the kink in it.

I suppose it was all down to the cost accountants. Twin port head, Star Twin style, and twin carbs to clear the frame upright being more expensive than the tooling for a goose neck frame, which would only need different simply bent tubes. Assume they used the same lugs for both frames. Also clever use of other stock parts from different models.

Not quite all stock parts. The oil tank, tool box, petrol tank, battery carrier, primary drive (which is triplex), pillion grab rail and timing side 2 part rear mudguard stay to name just a few are unique to the SF. The head had larger inlet valves , 8.1 pistons and the first production machine use of 67-356 cam I believe. The rear number plate was the same as used on a sports D1 Bantam but with a chrome extension for the rear lamp as can be seen in the picture.

if you do not have a toolbox it is the same as the C10L of the same period with the holes located in a different position.

Hi Lloyd, I do have the toolbox and most of the other parts for this bike, however they all need some work one way or another.
I plan on doing a dry build to fit up all the parts, starting with the repro guards which are never the same as originals.

Hi all, quite a bit has happened,although it can't be seen. I had the paint removed from everything I need to work with for the moment. The frame had seen some adventurous riding at some stage and required a bit of alignment work, front and rear. I am lucky that I can rectify this myself, I'd hate to have to pay someone as it was a solid 2 day affair for me, but all is OK.
So starting with the dry build, the engine & gear box cases all fit together smoothly, which is very important as a start.
My next fit up is the repro guards, as you can see the front one had some heat treatment, but looks great, and as there is no springs at the moment I can slide the wheel up & down to check for clearance. The bottom stay I have have is too long by 1/2 inch so it's on the backburner (wait list) at the moment.
Rear guard was always going to be a challenge. Finding a repro SFS rear guard is a battle, getting it to fit is a challenge. So far I have it positioned and some stays/fixings in place and I'm also very optimistic.

Hi Lloyd, I am aware of Terry, both you and Terry are inspirational BSA bike enthusiasts and it would be amazing to meet you guys some day, if I can get back to the States any time soon.

I have a friend here in the states looking to have the rear fender reproduced. He sent an original well used item for the dimensions. The company is in Western Australia. I had an NOS fender and all the brackets, it was still a bear to install. You may already know all the braces on the front fender is the same as the 1954 Road Rocket along with the fender itself. Well this took a fair bit longer than I thought it would. . I finally have the rear guard and all the stays/brackets, also the tool box brackets made to suit the repo rear guard, I still need to make one more stay for the front guard, but that should be a cake walk after the rear one.
A big thank you to Mikes classics in QLD for persisting with my requests and supplying some pressings and the cast mounting so I could make these stays to how I need them.
The repo guards slightly differ to originals and need to be set up from scratch, and in the words of Lloyd ”are a Bear”
The next step will be to set the bike up for a set of pipes and mufflers to be fabricated, from my man who done a fantastic job on the Daytona.
Happy Easter all, oh nearly forgot 1 year to go on this build.
Tomorrow I’m of to the All British Rally with my 62RGS & 57 Gold Flash for 5 fun filled days. CHEERS

Is that a grey or light blue colour ? Looks a bit like mine is, but is not a SF- not really a GF either though...

Dutch, the paint is just etch primer so it won’t rust for the moment.
